We are not a funeral home however we are licensed by the Ontario Board of Funeral Services as a "Transfer Service". Our managing director is a licensed Ontario Funeral Director as are many of our staff. In many cases a Transfer Service can provide a direct cremation like a regular funeral home but for a fraction of the price.
As a Transfer Service, we offer alternative services such as direct cremation and burial for families who wish to hold a memorial service on their own. Many funeral homes do not like to perform these simple services since it is priced lower and they have high overhead costs associated with a traditional funeral establishment. We however can offer a price for these alternative funeral services that is affordable and professional. This type of funeral license was created by the Provincial Government to allow families an affordable choice and go to an independent alternative instead of a traditional funeral home.
Direct cremation involves all of the necessary work starting from the place of death until the cremation takes place. This includes transportation the deceased from the place of death (hospital, home or nursing home), a cremation container typically made of corrugated cardboard or pine, and transferring to the crematorium for the cremation to take place. All necessary Government and Coroner registrations, including supplying death certificates and Canada Pension Forms, is included in this service.
The fact is that in most cases, the only reason a funeral home is needed is if a viewing of the deceased is desired. There is no reason to pay a premium for a funeral home to conduct a service for a remembrance, memorial service, direct cremation, or burial.
